A DSPES Examination of the Human Person, Consciousness, Spirit-Form, Prayer, and the Evolution of Creation
You live the life. You suffer the consequences. You acquire the knowledge. You make the moral choices. You form the prayer. But if your body, personality, consciousness, memories, and personal “I” all terminate at death—while only an impersonal spirit-form continues evolving—then a question can no longer be avoided: Who actually benefited from your existence?
This examination investigates a central
structural problem within the claimed human–spirit-form–Creation evolutionary
framework.
It does not merely ask whether reincarnation
occurs.
It asks something prior and more fundamental:
What exactly is the human person within the
system?
If the present personality and material
consciousness cease at death, while an enduring spirit-form continues through
successive personalities and ultimately contributes to the evolution of
Creation itself, then several connected questions arise:
Who is the traveler?
Who actually experiences and learns?
Who is praying when a human being “prays to
consciousness”?
To whom is that prayer directed?
Who retains the evolutionary benefit?
And why does Creation itself require human
experience in order to evolve?
The examination therefore follows the entire
chain rather than isolating individual doctrines:
Human Person → Conscious Experience → Prayer →
Death → Termination of Personality → Spirit-Form Continuity → Further Evolution
→ Creation's Evolution
What happens to the human “I” if body,
personality, individual consciousness, and personal identity all terminate at
death while only the spirit-form continues?
This DSPES examination follows that question
through the entire claimed evolutionary system. It examines personal
continuity, the meaning of reincarnation, prayer to consciousness, the role of
the spirit-form, the transfer of human experience, and the claim that human
evolution ultimately contributes to the evolution of Creation itself.
Rather than dismissing these claims, the
examination asks what each proposition actually requires logically and
evidentially.
At the center stands one decisive question:
Does the human person receive the enduring
benefit of human existence—or is the human personality merely a temporary
experiential instrument serving the evolution of something else?
A doctrine of human evolution must eventually
answer a simple but unavoidable question:
Who is the one evolving?
It is not sufficient to say that “evolution
continues.” A process can continue while the individual participants in that
process disappear. The deeper issue is whether the same conscious subject
who experiences life is also the subject who receives the enduring result
of that experience.
This becomes especially important in a
framework that distinguishes between the human body, personality, material
consciousness, psyche, and an enduring spirit-form or Creation-energy
component.
If the body dies, the personality terminates,
the individual consciousness ends, and the autobiographical “I” does not
continue—while only the spirit-form proceeds through further developmental
stages—then the statement that the human person evolves through millions of
lifetimes requires careful examination.
The problem becomes even more serious when the
same temporary human consciousness is instructed to direct something called prayer
toward consciousness, while the spirit-form is said to be the enduring
evolutionary component.
And the problem reaches its highest level when
human development is said ultimately to contribute to the evolution of
Creation itself.
The resulting questions are inseparable:
WHO IS THE TRAVELER?
WHO IS PRAYING, AND TO WHOM?
WHO BENEFITS FROM HUMAN EXISTENCE?
This examination does not begin by declaring
the framework false. Neither does it grant the framework immunity from
examination.
DSPES asks whether the proposed structure
corresponds with reality, whether its terms remain internally coherent, and
whether its conclusions actually follow from its premises.
Truth is measured, not invented.
I.
CLAIMS UNDER EXAMINATION
The following propositions form the conceptual
structure being examined.
Claim 1 —
Temporary Human Personality
The present human personality is temporary and
does not continue indefinitely as the same personality after death.
Claim 2 —
Termination of Material Consciousness
The material consciousness associated with the
present personality ceases with the death of the human organism.
Claim 3 —
Continuing Spirit-Form
An enduring spirit-form or Creation-energy
component continues beyond the death of a particular human personality.
Claim 4 —
Successive Personalities
Further human existence involves other
personalities rather than the literal return of the deceased personality as the
same conscious “I.”
Claim 5 —
Evolution Through Experience
The experiences acquired through human
existence somehow contribute to the evolution associated with the continuing
spirit-form.
Claim 6 —
Prayer to Consciousness
The human being may engage in a practice
described as prayer directed toward consciousness.
Claim 7 —
Evolution of Creation
Human and spirit-form evolution allegedly
contributes eventually to the continuing development or evolution of Creation
itself.
The examination asks whether these seven
propositions can coexist coherently.
II.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
Human
Person
The concrete conscious individual who says “I”
and possesses a particular biography, relationships, memories, choices,
experiences, responsibilities, and personal perspective.
Personality
The individual configuration by which a
particular human being possesses recognizable personal identity.
Material
Consciousness
The conscious mental activity associated with
the presently living human individual.
Personal
Identity
The continuity by which a subject existing at
one point can meaningfully be identified as the same subject existing
later.
Spirit-Form
The alleged enduring nonmaterial or
Creation-energy component that continues after the death of a particular human
personality.
Its exact characteristics must not be assumed
merely from its name.
Evolution
Development from one condition toward another
through accumulated change, experience, knowledge, capability, or
transformation.
Prayer
In its ordinary relational meaning, an
intentional address from one conscious subject toward another recipient
believed capable of receiving or apprehending that address.
Meditation
Focused internal activity of consciousness
that need not involve another conscious recipient.
Self-Instruction
Consciousness deliberately directing commands,
affirmations, reminders, or intentions toward its own functioning.
Creation
Within the framework under examination, the
larger cosmic reality or Universal Consciousness that itself is said to undergo
continuing development.
III. THE
CENTRAL IDENTITY PROBLEM
Consider Person A.
Person A possesses:
- a
body,
- personality,
- memories,
- material
consciousness,
- relationships,
- knowledge,
- moral
responsibility,
- hopes,
- suffering,
- love,
- intentional
action,
- and
awareness of being “I.”
During life, Person A experiences reality.
Person A learns.
Person A makes mistakes.
Person A corrects mistakes.
Person A loves.
Person A suffers.
Person A acquires understanding.
Person A meditates.
Person A may pray.
Then Person A dies.
If the framework maintains that:
Body A → ends
Personality A → ends
Material consciousness A → ends
Autobiographical identity A → ends
while:
Spirit-form → continues
then an immediate distinction becomes
necessary:
The continuation of the spirit-form is not
automatically the continuation of Person A.
This is foundational.
A continuing component and a continuing person
are not necessarily the same thing.
IV. WHO
IS THE TRAVELER?
Suppose Person B later appears in association
with the continuing spirit-form.
The sequence becomes:
Person A
↓ death
Spirit-form continues
↓ later embodiment
Person B
If B possesses a different personality,
different consciousness, different memories, different relationships, and a
different awareness of “I,” then Person B is not automatically Person A.
Something may connect them.
But connection is not identity.
A river may connect two cities.
That does not make the two cities one city.
Information may pass from one computer to
another.
That does not make the second computer the
first computer.
Likewise:
Continuity of an underlying spiritual
component does not by itself demonstrate continuity of the human person.
Therefore the statement:
“Person A continues evolving through later
lifetimes”
cannot be accepted merely because a
spirit-form allegedly continues.
The more accurate formulation would be:
The spirit-form allegedly continues developing
through association with successive human personalities.
That is a very different proposition.
V. THE
LIGHT-BULB PROBLEM
The light-bulb analogy helps expose the
distinction.
Imagine a bulb connected to an electrical
system.
The bulb produces light.
Eventually the bulb burns out.
Another bulb is installed.
The electrical current continues.
But nobody would ordinarily say:
“The first bulb has become the second bulb.”
The continuing current does not establish
continuity of the individual bulb.
Applied cautiously:
Person A = temporary manifestation
Spirit-form = continuing underlying component
Person A terminates.
Person B later appears.
If A's personal identity does not continue
into B, then saying “A has returned” or “A is continuing to evolve”
obscures an important distinction.
The system may continue.
The alleged spiritual component may continue.
But A has not necessarily continued.
VI. THE
SNAKE-SHEDDING PROBLEM
The snake illustration reveals the issue from
another direction.
A snake sheds its old skin while growing.
But something decisive remains true:
The snake before shedding is the same snake
after shedding.
The skin changes.
The animal continues.
Therefore genuine snake growth follows this
pattern:
Same subject → transformation → same subject
continues
But the framework under examination appears
closer to:
Person A → termination
Spirit-form → continuation
Person B → new personality
That is not equivalent to a snake shedding its
skin unless it can be established that Person B remains genuinely the same
conscious subject as Person A.
The snake analogy therefore cannot solve the
identity problem.
It may actually expose it.
VII. WHO
EXPERIENCES HUMAN LIFE?
Another distinction now becomes unavoidable.
Who feels physical pain?
Person A.
Who forms friendships?
Person A.
Who experiences grief?
Person A.
Who makes moral decisions?
Person A.
Who develops knowledge?
Person A.
Who experiences love?
Person A.
Who struggles against fear?
Person A.
Who asks questions?
Person A.
Who performs acts of compassion?
Person A.
Who regrets wrongdoing?
Person A.
Who prays?
Again, apparently:
Person A.
The spirit-form cannot simply be credited with
performing these acts unless it can be demonstrated that the spirit-form itself
possesses the relevant personal awareness, intention, memory, and agency.
VIII.
WHO IS PRAYING?
Prayer requires identifying an agent.
Someone must formulate the intention.
Someone must mean the words.
Someone must desire the outcome.
Someone must make the address.
During normal human consciousness, that agent
is the currently existing person.
Therefore:
The immediate praying subject is the living
human personality operating through its consciousness.
If someone says:
“My consciousness is praying,”
the terminology changes very little, because
the consciousness belongs to and functions within the presently existing human
subject.
But this produces the next problem.
IX. TO
WHOM IS THE PRAYER ADDRESSED?
If the person is instructed to pray to his
or her consciousness, the structure becomes:
consciousness → addresses consciousness
or:
human personality → addresses its own
consciousness
This is logically possible as internal mental
activity.
A person can tell himself:
“I must remain calm.”
“I will think carefully.”
“I must overcome fear.”
“I will strengthen my resolve.”
Such practices may have psychological value.
But they ordinarily belong to categories such
as:
self-instruction
affirmation
meditation
focused intention
mental discipline
self-regulation
These do not require another conscious
recipient.
Prayer in the relational sense normally has a
different structure:
Subject A → addresses Subject B
Therefore the use of the word prayer
cannot itself prove that another recipient exists.
X. THE
PRAYER-CONTINUITY PROBLEM
Now the death question becomes decisive.
Suppose Person A prays to consciousness A.
During life:
Person A → consciousness A
At death, according to the premise being
examined:
Person A → terminates
personality A → terminates
material consciousness A → terminates
while:
spirit-form → continues
Then both the immediate praying subject and
the immediate consciousness being addressed have ceased as that individual
human configuration.
Therefore we must ask:
What enduring relationship was established by
the prayer?
If the answer is:
“None; prayer to consciousness simply
strengthens the person during earthly life,”
then the practice may remain useful.
But its proper classification would more
closely resemble mental discipline or meditation.
That is conceptually different from prayer to
an enduring transcendent recipient.
XI. WHY
PRAY TO SOMETHING THAT TERMINATES?
This does not mean that temporary things have
no value.
Food is temporary but necessary.
Sleep is temporary but beneficial.
Education during childhood remains meaningful
despite childhood ending.
Therefore the mere fact that consciousness
terminates would not prove that cultivating consciousness is meaningless.
The stronger question is narrower:
Why characterize self-directed consciousness
training as prayer if no distinct conscious recipient is involved?
And an even more important question follows:
If the spirit-form is the enduring
evolutionary component, why is the temporary consciousness rather than the
spirit-form treated as the focus of prayer?
The doctrine must explain the relationship.
XII.
COULD THE SPIRIT-FORM BE THE TRUE RECIPIENT?
Perhaps one could answer:
“The consciousness is really directing itself
toward the spirit-form.”
That possibility introduces new requirements.
Does the spirit-form:
- hear?
- understand
language?
- possess
intention?
- recognize
the individual personality?
- respond?
- exercise
judgment?
- possess
personal awareness?
- receive
requests?
- enter
into relationship?
If these qualities are affirmed, evidence must
establish them.
If these qualities are denied, then calling
the spirit-form the recipient of prayer becomes difficult.
An energy component may participate causally
in a system without being a personal addressee.
Therefore:
Existence does not equal awareness.
And:
Continuity does not equal personal agency.
XIII.
COULD THE SPIRIT-FORM BE THE ONE PRAYING?
Another possibility would be:
the spirit-form is praying through the human
personality.
But this also requires evidence.
If the human personality experiences itself as
forming the intention, choosing the words, and making the decision to pray,
then attributing the action instead to the spirit-form introduces a hidden
agent.
The burden becomes:
What observable or logically necessary
evidence distinguishes spirit-form agency from ordinary human consciousness?
Without such evidence, the simpler explanation
remains that the present human consciousness is performing the mental act.
XIV.
FOUR POSSIBLE PRAYER MODELS
The ambiguity can be reduced to four
possibilities.
MODEL A —
Consciousness Addresses Itself
Human consciousness → human consciousness
This is coherent as self-directed mental
practice.
It does not require a transcendent recipient.
MODEL B —
Human Personality Addresses Spirit-Form
Person → spirit-form
This requires evidence that the spirit-form
possesses receptive awareness.
MODEL C —
Spirit-Form Operates Through the Person
Spirit-form → personality/consciousness →
prayer
This requires evidence that the spirit-form
possesses intentional agency and actually initiates the prayer.
MODEL D —
Human Person Addresses a Transcendent Conscious Source
Human person → Eternal Source
This is relational prayer in the ordinary
sense because petitioner and recipient are distinct.
The four structures should not be blended
together.
They make radically different claims about
reality.
XV. WHO
DOES THE EVOLUTIONARY WORK?
Now consider the entire lifetime.
Person A:
lives,
observes,
learns,
struggles,
suffers,
loves,
makes choices,
develops discipline,
acquires knowledge,
corrects errors,
and possibly engages in prayer or meditation.
These activities require the concrete human
person.
Then Person A disappears as a conscious
personality.
Yet some developmental effect is said to
remain within the continuing spiritual process.
This produces what may be called:
THE
EVOLUTIONARY BENEFICIARY PROBLEM
The person performs the experience, while
another continuing entity receives the enduring evolutionary consequence.
That does not automatically prove
exploitation.
But it requires explanation.
XVI.
INFORMATION CONTINUITY IS NOT PERSONAL CONTINUITY
Suppose the experience of Person A somehow
contributes information to the continuing spirit-form.
Even if this were established, we must
distinguish:
INFORMATIONAL
CONTINUITY
Something acquired through A remains available
within the system.
from:
PERSONAL
CONTINUITY
A himself remains the conscious subject
possessing that experience.
These are not identical.
Imagine an author writes a book and dies.
The information survives.
The author does not thereby continue
personally inside every reader.
Likewise:
The survival of information generated through
Person A does not demonstrate the survival of Person A.
This distinction is crucial.
XVII.
THE MORAL OWNERSHIP PROBLEM
Human experiences are not merely information.
They involve moral agency.
Person A chooses whether to tell the truth.
Person A chooses whether to harm another.
Person A chooses whether to forgive.
Person A chooses whether to exercise courage.
Person A therefore becomes morally responsible
for the actions of Person A.
But if Person A permanently terminates while
an impersonal spirit-form receives the developmental consequence, another
question arises:
Who owns the moral achievement?
Who actually became wiser?
Who became more compassionate?
Who learned from suffering?
Who overcame selfishness?
If the answer is:
Person A did, then why does Person A not
continue as the subject possessing that growth?
If the answer is:
the spirit-form did, then we
must explain how an entity that allegedly did not itself perform Person A's
conscious moral decisions legitimately becomes the enduring bearer of the
result.
The transfer cannot simply be assumed.
XVIII.
PERSON A AND PERSON B
Suppose Person B later enters the process.
B does not remember being A.
B possesses another personality.
B possesses another consciousness.
B has other parents.
B develops other relationships.
B experiences being another “I.”
If B nevertheless receives some evolutionary
inheritance originating from A, then B may be a beneficiary of accumulated
development.
But this still does not mean:
B = A
And if B must begin again without personal
memory of A's mistakes, another practical problem appears:
How does a new personality consciously correct
errors it cannot remember committing?
An impersonal transfer of tendencies or
developmental capacity may be proposed.
But that requires its own mechanism and
evidence.
XIX. THE
VEHICLE PROBLEM
The human body is often compared with a
vehicle.
That analogy can be useful.
A person drives a car.
The car is temporary.
The driver continues after leaving it.
But if the analogy is extended to the
personality and consciousness, something changes radically.
If:
body = vehicle
and:
personality = temporary
and:
consciousness = temporary
then who is the driver?
The obvious answer would seem to be:
spirit-form.
But does the spirit-form actually do what a
driver does?
Does it consciously see through the eyes?
Does it deliberate?
Does it remember?
Does it choose destinations?
Does it possess the first-person awareness:
“I am Ricardo”?
If not, then calling it the driver may be
misleading.
A true driver possesses agency.
A power source does not necessarily qualify as
a driver.
XX. THE
INSTRUMENTAL HUMAN PROBLEM
Now the larger evolutionary claim becomes
important.
Suppose the structure is:
human personality
↓
produces material experiences
↓
spirit-form develops
↓
higher developmental stages
↓
eventual contribution to Creation
↓
Creation continues evolving
Then the human personality occupies a peculiar
place.
The human person performs the immediate
experience.
But the human personality is not the enduring
endpoint.
The continuing process belongs elsewhere.
This creates what may be called:
THE
INSTRUMENTAL HUMAN PROBLEM
Does the human person possess intrinsic and
enduring value, or is the person fundamentally a temporary experiential
instrument through which a larger evolutionary system develops?
A system may answer:
“Both.”
That is possible.
But then the intrinsic value of the person
must be demonstrated, not merely asserted.
If the person permanently disappears while
everything enduring flows toward another entity, the system structurally
emphasizes instrumental value.
XXI. THE
BEEHIVE ANALOGY
The beehive analogy illustrates the concern.
Worker bees labor within a larger system.
Their activity benefits:
the colony,
the queen,
future generations,
and the continuation of the hive.
Individual workers die.
The larger structure continues.
If human beings similarly produce experiences
that ultimately support the evolutionary development of a larger cosmic entity,
then human existence begins to resemble participation in a vast developmental
economy.
This does not prove the doctrine false.
But it raises a legitimate question:
Is Creation serving the fulfillment of
conscious persons, or are conscious persons serving the developmental
requirements of Creation?
That distinction cannot be dismissed as merely
emotional.
It concerns the architecture of the doctrine
itself.
XXII.
WHY DOES CREATION NEED HUMAN EXPERIENCE?
We now reach perhaps the deepest question.
If Creation itself evolves, then apparently
Creation can exist in:
state C1
and later:
state C2
where C2 represents some developmental advance
beyond C1.
Therefore something distinguishable has
changed.
Creation has gained something it did not
possess in exactly the same way before.
Then ask:
What is being gained?
Knowledge?
Experience?
Complexity?
Conscious development?
Awareness?
Capability?
Perfection?
And if the experiences of human beings
eventually contribute to that gain:
What does Creation receive from human
experience that Creation did not already possess?
This question cannot be answered merely by
repeating:
“Creation evolves.”
That restates the claim.
It does not explain the mechanism or purpose.
XXIII.
THE CREATION-BENEFICIARY PARADOX
The structure produces another paradox.
Human beings are told that they exist within
Creation.
Their spirit-forms originate within the larger
structure.
Their evolutionary process occurs within
Creation.
Yet their experiences allegedly contribute
back toward Creation's own development.
The process therefore resembles:
Creation produces experiential beings
↓
experiential beings generate developmental
experience
↓
their spiritual development accumulates
↓
the result eventually contributes to Creation
This leads to the question:
Is Creation educating humanity, or is humanity
helping educate Creation?
Possibly both.
But if both, the doctrine must explain why the
supposed cosmic source requires experiential contributions from finite beings
that it itself generated.
XXIV.
THE DESTINATION PROBLEM
Evolution implies direction.
To say something is becoming more developed
requires some standard by which one state is judged more developed than
another.
Therefore:
C1 → C2
can only be called evolution rather than
random alteration if C2 represents some objectively meaningful advancement.
Then we must ask:
According to what standard?
If Creation itself is evolving, is the
standard:
inside Creation?
produced by Creation?
identical with Creation?
or beyond Creation?
If the standard is itself changing along with
Creation, then the measurement of advancement risks circularity.
If the standard is stable, then something
stable appears necessary by which the developing state is measured.
This connects directly with the DSPES
principle:
Truth requires correspondence with what
actually is.
XXV. THE
THREE CENTRAL QUESTIONS
Everything in this examination ultimately
reduces to three questions.
QUESTION
ONE
WHO IS THE
TRAVELER?
If Person A permanently disappears while only
the spirit-form continues, then the spirit-form—not Person A—appears to be the
enduring traveler.
Therefore the claim that the person
reincarnates or personally evolves through countless lifetimes remains
unestablished unless personal identity continues.
QUESTION
TWO
WHO IS
PRAYING, AND TO WHOM?
If the present personality forms the prayer,
then the personality is the praying agent.
If its own temporary consciousness is the
recipient, the practice appears structurally closer to self-directed
consciousness work.
If the spirit-form is the recipient, receptive
consciousness must be demonstrated.
If the spirit-form is the praying agent,
intentional agency must be demonstrated.
The terminology alone cannot settle the
question.
QUESTION
THREE
WHO
BENEFITS FROM HUMAN EXISTENCE?
If:
the human person experiences,
the human person learns,
the human person suffers,
the human person loves,
the human person struggles,
the human person prays,
but the human person permanently terminates,
while:
the spirit-form continues,
the developmental process continues,
and Creation eventually benefits,
then the enduring beneficiary appears not to
be the particular human personality.
This requires explanation.
XXVI.
EVIDENCE CATEGORIES
DSPES distinguishes several forms of support.
1.
TERMINOLOGICAL EVIDENCE
What exactly do the teachings mean by:
personality,
consciousness,
spirit-form,
Creation-energy,
rebirth,
evolution,
and prayer?
Changing terminology cannot be allowed to
conceal changing propositions.
2. LOGICAL
EVIDENCE
Can the claims coexist without contradiction?
In particular:
Can a person be said to continue if the
defining conscious identity of that person terminates?
Can consciousness coherently be both
petitioner and recipient while being described as prayer?
Can experience belong to one subject while
permanent evolutionary ownership belongs to another?
3.
MECHANISTIC EVIDENCE
How does experience transfer from personality
to spirit-form?
What exactly is transferred?
Information?
Capacity?
Moral development?
Memory?
Consciousness?
Energy?
No mechanism should be assumed merely because
a process has been named.
4.
EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE
Can any independent observation distinguish
the proposed spirit-form mechanism from:
biological inheritance,
psychological development,
cultural transmission,
memory,
social learning,
or ordinary human consciousness?
Extraordinary ontological claims require
appropriate evidence.
5.
CONTINUITY EVIDENCE
What proves that the subject associated with
Person A remains meaningfully continuous beyond Person A's death?
The existence of a continuing component alone
does not establish personal continuity.

Another problem arises if self-directed

recipient.
The claims require clearer correspondence

then the doctrine needs to explain what

Temporary existence can possess value.
But the doctrine cannot claim personal
continuity merely by transferring that value to another continuing entity.

XXIX.
WHAT WOULD RESOLVE THE PROBLEM?
The examination is correctable.
The framework could substantially strengthen
itself by establishing the following.
1.
Demonstrate Personal Continuity
Show that Person A remains genuinely the same
conscious subject beyond death.
2. Explain
Consciousness Precisely
Clarify whether consciousness terminates,
continues, changes form, or possesses some enduring component.
3. Identify
the Actual Traveler
State plainly whether the traveler is:
the person,
consciousness,
spirit-form,
or something else.
4. Identify
the Praying Agent
Establish who actually forms the prayer.
5. Identify
the Recipient
If consciousness is the recipient, explain why
the practice should be classified as prayer rather than self-directed mental
discipline.
If spirit-form is the recipient, demonstrate
receptive agency.
6. Explain
Experience Transfer
Show what passes from Person A into the
continuing spirit-form and by what mechanism.
7. Explain
Moral Ownership
Clarify who ultimately possesses the wisdom
acquired through Person A's moral decisions.
8. Explain
Creation's Need for Evolution
Identify what Creation gains through human and
spirit-form development.
9.
Establish the Standard of Evolution
Show what objective standard makes one
condition of Creation more developed than another.
10.
Establish Human Intrinsic Value
Explain how the individual human person
remains more than a temporary instrument serving a process that continues after
that person disappears.
XXX.
CORRECTED DSPES FORMULATION
Until those questions are answered, DSPES
recommends a more restrained formulation.
Instead of saying:
“The human person evolves through millions of
lifetimes.”
say:
“The framework proposes that an enduring
spirit-form develops through association with successive human personalities.
Whether this constitutes personal human continuity remains to be demonstrated.”
Instead of automatically saying:
“Prayer to consciousness.”
say:
“Self-directed consciousness practice may
function as meditation, affirmation, focused intention, or mental self-mastery
unless a distinct conscious recipient of prayer can be established.”
Instead of saying:
“Human beings help Creation evolve.”
say:
“The framework proposes that human
experiential development eventually contributes to Creation's development; the
causal mechanism, ultimate beneficiary, and objective standard of that
development require independent examination.”
These formulations preserve what is claimed
without granting more than the evidence establishes.
XXXI.
FINAL DSPES ASSESSMENT
The deepest difficulty is not simply
reincarnation.
It is not simply prayer to consciousness.
It is not simply the concept of an evolving
Creation.
The deeper problem is the relationship between
the experiencer and the beneficiary.
If Person A performs the living but does not
continue;
if Person A performs the learning but does not
retain personal continuity;
if Person A performs the moral struggle but
disappears;
if Person A performs the prayer while both
personality and material consciousness terminate;
if the spirit-form alone continues;
and if the accumulated development ultimately
contributes to Creation itself;
then the framework must answer:
In what meaningful sense is Person A the one
who is evolving?
Without personal continuity, it appears more
accurate to say that Person A participates in the evolution of something
else.
That distinction is decisive.
The light bulb may cease while electricity
continues.
The shed skin may be left behind while the
snake continues.
But in both analogies the question remains:
What corresponds to the actual person?
If the human personality corresponds merely to
the temporary bulb, then the current—not the bulb—is the continuing entity.
If the human personality corresponds merely to
the discarded covering, then something other than the personality is the true
organism undergoing development.
But if the personality is the one who
consciously suffers, loves, learns, chooses, and prays, then reducing that
personality to a temporary developmental instrument produces a major
philosophical burden.
Therefore the present DSPES judgment is:
THE
FRAMEWORK IS STRUCTURALLY STRAINED AND REMAINS UNESTABLISHED ON PERSONAL
CONTINUITY, PRAYER IDENTITY, AND THE ULTIMATE BENEFICIARY OF HUMAN EVOLUTION.
The framework has not yet demonstrated that:
the person who experiences is the person who
continues,
the one praying has an identifiable enduring
recipient,
or
the human person rather than merely the
spirit-form and Creation receives the enduring benefit of the evolutionary
process.
And so the examination arrives at its final
three questions:
WHO IS
THE TRAVELER?
If the person ends, the person cannot simply
be assumed to be the traveler.
WHO IS
PRAYING, AND TO WHOM?
If consciousness addresses itself, the
practice may be mental discipline rather than relational prayer; if spirit-form
is involved, its agency must be demonstrated.
WHO
BENEFITS FROM HUMAN EXISTENCE?
If the conscious person performs the entire
earthly journey but permanently disappears while the spirit-form and Creation
continue developing, then the ultimate beneficiary appears to lie beyond the
human personality.
That possibility does not merely require
belief.
It requires explanation.
It requires evidence.
And above all:
it requires correspondence with reality.
SIGNATURE
CLOSING
DSPES does not reject a claim because it is
unfamiliar, cosmic, spiritual, or difficult. Neither does it accept a claim
because it comes wrapped in an elaborate evolutionary system. The question
remains the same for every teaching: Does the explanation preserve the
identity of the things it speaks about, follow its own premises consistently,
and correspond with what can actually be established?
If I am the one who lives, loves, suffers,
chooses, learns, and prays, yet the “I” permanently disappears while another
entity receives the enduring evolutionary consequence, then it is reasonable to
ask whether I was truly the traveler—or merely one temporary vehicle in
someone else's journey.
And if Creation itself ultimately receives the
developmental benefit, the final question becomes unavoidable:
Was human existence created for the
fulfillment of the human person, or is the human person being used for the
fulfillment of Creation's own evolution?
Until that question is satisfactorily
answered, the examination remains open.
Q&A
— SEVEN CENTRAL QUESTIONS
1. Does
this examination claim that the spirit-form does not exist?
No.
The examination does not begin by denying the
existence of a spirit-form. It asks what evidence establishes its existence,
properties, consciousness, agency, continuity, and relationship to the human
person.
Even if a spirit-form were established,
another question would remain:
Does the continuation of the spirit-form
constitute the continuation of the human “I”?
Those are separate propositions.
2. If
Person A dies and Person B later possesses the same spirit-form, is Person B
really Person A?
Not necessarily.
A common underlying component does not
automatically establish numerical personal identity.
If B possesses another personality, another
consciousness, another biography, other relationships, and no personal
awareness of being A, then the framework must demonstrate what makes:
A = B
rather than merely:
A and B are associated with the same
continuing spirit-form.
Without that demonstration, it is more
accurate to describe the process as successive personalities associated with
an enduring component rather than the personal return of A.
3. Does the
termination of consciousness make consciousness development meaningless?
No.
A temporary activity can still possess genuine
value during earthly life.
Mental discipline, learning, emotional
control, self-examination, concentration, and moral development may be
beneficial even if they are temporary.
The narrower issue concerns the use of the
word prayer.
If consciousness merely directs thought toward
itself, then the practice may be better classified as:
self-instruction, meditation, affirmation,
focused intention, or mental self-regulation.
Calling it prayer does not by itself establish
a distinct conscious recipient.
4. Who is
actually praying when someone prays to consciousness?
On the premises examined here, the immediate
agent appears to be the present human personality functioning through its
consciousness.
The person forms the intention.
The person chooses the words.
The person desires the result.
The person performs the mental act.
If the spirit-form is instead claimed to be
the true praying subject, then its intentional agency must be demonstrated.
5. Why is
prayer to consciousness especially problematic if consciousness terminates at
death?
Because both sides of the apparent prayer
relation may be temporary.
If:
the human personality performs the prayer
and:
the person's own consciousness is the
recipient
while both terminate at death, then the
doctrine must explain what makes this a relational prayer rather than an
internal consciousness exercise.
The issue is not that temporary mental
practices are useless.
The issue is what kind of act is actually
taking place.
6. If the
spirit-form receives the evolutionary benefit, what happens to Person A's
achievements?
This is one of the principal unresolved
questions.
Person A appears to perform the moral and
experiential work:
A learns.
A suffers.
A chooses.
A loves.
A corrects mistakes.
A acquires wisdom.
If A permanently terminates while the
spirit-form carries forward some developmental result, then a distinction must
be maintained between:
the person who performed the experience
and:
the entity that receives its enduring
consequence.
The doctrine must explain both the transfer
mechanism and the ownership of that development.
7. What is
the deepest question raised by the claim that human beings help Creation
evolve?
The deepest question is:
Why does Creation require the developmental
contribution of temporary human beings at all?
If Creation advances through human and
spirit-form experience, then Creation appears to gain something through the
process.
DSPES therefore asks:
What is gained?
Why was it previously lacking?
How is the gain transferred?
According to what objective standard is the
later condition “more evolved”?
And finally:
Is the human person the intended beneficiary
of Creation's order—or is the human person one of the instruments by which
Creation itself develops?
CONCLUSION
The problem examined here cannot be resolved
simply by saying:
“The spirit-form continues.”
That statement, even if true, does not answer
whether the human person continues.
Nor can the prayer question be resolved merely
by naming an internal consciousness exercise “prayer.”
And the claim that human beings contribute to
Creation's evolution does not explain who ultimately receives the benefit of
human existence.
The decisive distinction throughout this
examination is between:
continuation of a process
and
continuation of the person participating in
that process.
A power grid can continue after a bulb burns
out.
A species can continue after an individual
organism dies.
A civilization can preserve an author's
writings after the author is gone.
Information can continue without the person
who generated it.
Therefore:
Continuity somewhere in the system is not
enough. The doctrine must identify continuity of the actual subject whose
evolution it claims to describe.
If Person A lives the life, suffers the
consequences, performs the moral struggle, develops understanding, and offers
the prayer—but Person A permanently disappears while the spirit-form and
Creation continue—then it is no longer sufficient to say that Person A is
evolving.
The more precise question remains:
WHO
BENEFITS FROM HUMAN EXISTENCE?
Until the experiencer, traveler, praying
agent, recipient, continuing subject, and ultimate beneficiary can be clearly
identified, the proposed structure remains unresolved rather than
established.
DSPES therefore leaves the examination open to
correction, evidence, clarification, and verification.
That is not hostility toward the teaching.
It is what commitment to truth requires.
CALL TO
ACTION
Do not accept or reject this examination
merely because its conclusion agrees or disagrees with what you already
believe.
Examine the structure yourself.
Ask the three questions:
WHO IS THE TRAVELER?
WHO IS PRAYING, AND TO WHOM?
WHO BENEFITS FROM HUMAN EXISTENCE?
Then follow each answer carefully.
If the answer changes from person to consciousness,
from consciousness to spirit-form, and from spirit-form to Creation,
stop and ask whether the subject of the explanation has changed along the way.
If you possess primary texts, quotations,
definitions, or evidence capable of resolving these questions, place them
beside the claims and examine them under the same standard.
No teaching should fear accurate definition.
No truth should fear verification.
